Shemini: The Passing of the Righteous
Dear Friend,
I’m grappling with shocking news. Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz, my father’s friend and colleague, whom I had known literally since I was born, suddenly passed away at the age of 59, leaving behind nine children and hundreds of congregants. As a family friend, I was in shock. As a reporter at Chabad.org/News, I immediately began collecting data for our obituary for the man who led Chabad in Illinois for as long as I’ve been alive. All throughout the night, my mind kept on wandering, thoughts drifting back to the bereaved family and the nightmare that was just beginning for them.
Among the seven bookcases that adorn my living room, there is one section dedicated to various editions of the Torah (yes, we have a lot). One edition is especially precious to me. It was my first sefer (holy book), a gift from Rabbi and Mrs. Moscowitz on the occasion of my upsherin (third birthday and first haircutting).
Tonight, I think I will take the slim red volume with the peeling binding down from the bookshelf and use it to learn with my kids.
It will be my way to perpetuate a life that was dedicated to Torah and Judaism.

Didn't know him but wish strength and blessings to his family. Seems like his life was a Mitzvah to many...may he RIP and be close to H'Shem.

I am shocked of the loss of the good rabbi at such a young age. This up sets me in many ways. I am truly sorry for the loss to the world when we need the wisdom and knowledge of the wise men this is not acceptable.
RIP Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz.
I am so sorry that he died at an early age. I can not repay him for all the help he sent my way. I can only ask my G-D to hold him and bless him. I guess G-d will take all the best people before the world go to the big test. My heart goes out to you and his family for this great loss.

I owe the Jewish people and all the great teachers of Torah a debt of gratitude as they have preserved the Faith and the word for the world to see Hashem's faithfulness.
I am one from the nations who has been called to unity in faith with Israel thanks to teachers like Rabbi Daniel.

There's only one explanation.
There is only one explanation for this sad (For those of us left behind.) event: Moshe Rabbenu had an opening in his Talmud study group in the Hereafter, and knew just the person to add the most to the discussion.
R. Moskowitz had a very important influence on my son's growth in Lubavitch, and for that I am most grateful.

So sorry to here about the passing of your father's friend, Rabbi Moscowitz. As a pastor, I am so glad for G-d's Word, the Bible, that helps us to find comfort in times like this and helps us through our grieving. Thank G-d for the legacy that Rabbi Moscowitz has left in so many lives, including your own, and how G-d will continue to touch peoples lives for generations to come through his memory.

Special Seforim Rb OBM and Mrs Moskowitz. gave my son a siddhur for his upshern when wlived in Rogers Park and to this, I use it. It was lovely to read your account of your great admiration for them.

It maybe related or not.
My father who passed on in 1985, may know the person related to Rabbi Moscowitz of Montreal, Canada some years before his death. He was a friend who came to Singapore for a visit. I am wondering as his eldest son, if this same person who came to us is the father of the deceased Rabbi. Yes I met him.
It may be possible that this person is not related since he came from Canada. If it is at all possible, could you please send me Rabbi Moscowitz's photo via email? Thank you.
